Antioxidant Power

Every ingredient in this recipe, except the water, contains high levels of antioxidants, which have been shown to prevent oxidation in the body.  This water also contains vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, and calcium.

    • 20 fresh blueberries
    • 10 fresh blackberries
    • 10 seedless red grapes
    • 1/4 small red beet, peeled and coarsely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon unsweetened Dutch-processed cocoa powder
    • 4 cups chilled still water

 

 

 

Method

Puree all the ingredients in a blender until smooth, for about 1 minutes.

Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher.  Serve cold.

4 servings

Food Pairings: red meat, grilled pork

Tip: Be sure to use Dutch-processed cocoa powder in this recipe, as it is less acidic than natural cocoa.
