Hamburger Recipe for Cheese Steak Burgers

Scroll down for the variation that gives you yet another burger.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground round steak
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 medium sweet onions, sliced, and separated into ringlets
  • 2 teaspoons A1 Sauce
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, (about 4 oz)
  • 4 Kaiser rolls, split

Method

In a small skillet, over high heat, melt the butter. Saute' the onion ringlets until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Add A1 sauce for the last few seconds or so  Set aside.

Heat gas or charcoal grill. Shape ground round into 8 thin patties.

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with a cover, or preheat a gas grill to medium-high.  When the grill is ready, brush the grill rack with vegetable oil. Place patties on grill 3 to 5 inches from coals; cook 4 to 8 minutes each side, turning once only, or to desired degree of doneness (145°F for medium-rare, 160°F for medium or 170°F for well done).

Place 2 slices of cheese on top of 4 of the patties. Place remaining patties on top.  Cover and allow cheese to melt.

Serve patties on rolls with the fried onions. Offer ketchup, or mayonnaise as condiments.

Variation:
Hold the fried onion.  Top burgers with lettuce, tomato slices, and raw onion slices. Slather Bun tops with mayonnaise - now you've got a Cheese Steak Hoagie Burger.
