Waldorf Salad

As you might guess, the Waldorf salad was created at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, though legend holds that it was no the chef but the maître d'hôtel Oscar Tschirky who did the honors, The year was 1896 and it has been a favorite ever since.

  • 1 cup apples - GrannySsmith or a combination of different tart apples)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup walnuts (optional)

 

 

METHOD

Chop apples roughly. Sprinkle with lemon juice to retain color. Toss well to distribute lemon juice evenly.

Add all other ingredients. Toss to cover each piece of apple with mayonnaise.

Serve on a bed of lettuce.

Serves: 4
