In a large bowl, mix together flour, soda, sugar and spices.
In a separate bowl, combine egg, shortening, sweet potato
and milk. Stir well to combine, then add to flour mixture, beating until smooth.
Cook on a very hot, lightly
greased griddle. When bubbles appear at the edges, flip pancakes.
This is especially nice when given a sprinkle of confectioner's sugar.
