Saucepan Brownies

  • 2/3 cups butter
  • 4 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts

        
 

Method

Preheat oven to 325°F .

Melt butter, chocolate, and sugar over moderate heat, stirring occasionally. (A double boiler is always perfect.)

Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and beat in eggs.

Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda, and add to chocolate mixture. Fold in chopped nuts and vanilla. Pour batter into two lightly greased 9"x 9" pans. Bake in preheated 325°F oven for 20-25 minutes.

Cool in pan 15-20 minutes. Turn out and finish cooling on a wire rack.
