the
beauty and drama of food
My mother's cooking
has great range. She
is Jewish of Russian descent, but she grew up in an Italian neighborhood
in Long Island. She makes great chicken cacciatore, great pasta sauces,
great Tzimmis and a
chicken soup like you've never tasted.
My mother never followed
a recipe. She had a lot of cookbooks, but I think she bought them for
inspiration only. She'd get an idea and then use her own imagination to
make whatever she wanted. She was happy because she was using her creativity,
not only by inventing a recipe, but also by making food look absolutely
beautiful. She taught me to appreciate the drama of food. I think that
watching her, and seeing that food could be a wonderful celebration of
life, motivated me to run a Bed and Breakfast.
