Popovers, Peaches and Four-Poster Beds

A Hill Country Sampler of Delicious Ways to Start the Day

by Patsy Swendson, published by Eakin Press

Patsy Swendson is the owner of Cook's Cottage in Fredericksburg, Texas.  Named one of the 25 most romantic B & B's in the US by Travel and Leisure, Swendson knows what makes breakfast romantic as well as nourishing.

In Popovers, Peaches and Four-Poster Beds, she shares the recipes that made her a celebrated hostess and the designer of romance.   "Breakfast is everyone's secret love," avows Swendson. "Most first-of-the-day fares seem to be rather unfocused and ordinary, featuring nothing more exciting than toast, cereal and coffee.  But there certainly have been several breakfast moments that I have served to my guests that remain firmly etched."

Clearly stating that her intention in her book is to go beyond bacon and eggs, she has compiled what she refers to as a sampler, but is in fact an extensive assortment of imaginative breakfast dishes.  From beverages to muffins, biscuits, breads and popovers, toppings, entrees, asides and all sorts of pastries, you can turn breakfast or brunch into a feast, even use these for a main course at dinner.  Try Johnnycake with Mandarin Orange Strawberry Cake today and tomorrow try Peach Crunch Muffins or or any one of the several Popover recipes that Swendson has hiding in her apron pocket.  Try The Cook's Cottage Supreme Breakfast Casserole, one of the breakfasts's that brings her guests back and back again.

Swendson writes without any fuss at all: her prose is clear and lucid, her directions easy to follow.  This is a book to use and use again, one that will stay on the shelves for years.  While we always appreciate a cookbook writer has made things easier, not harder, through good writing, we are especially grateful that we don't have to have four cups of coffee before using this book.  This is Swendson's 49th book.  We hope she will round off the number with a 50th.

Every possible breakfast treat can be found in this book.
