With so whimsical  -and musically evocative-  a title as Slurp, the reader knows that good drinks lie ahead and that they may have a little verve.  Authors Nina Dreyer Hensley, Jim Hensley, and Paul Løwe have followed our liquid desires from morning until night, concocting not only drinks, alcoholic or not, for every moment of the day, but delicious recipes that give a crunch to go with the slurp.

There are more than 100 recipes for drinks and for food to pair with the drinks presented by the time of day.  There are both classic and innovative cocktails, smoothies, coffee drinks, teas, hot chocolates, shakes and lassies. For those who are imbued with too much pleasure in lifting the glass, the authors kindly provide hangover remedies for the day after.

Rise in the morning to enjoy a Mimosa paired with Yogurt Muesli and Pears, or start the day with a gourmet nutritional punch savoring a Tropical Smoothie (mango pineapple, banana) to accompany Toast Cups with Eggs.

As the day unfolds, instead of that plain glass of water, sip some Ginger and Mint Iced Tea or try a Banana and Pear Lassie or an Espresso Shake.  For lunch pair a Watermelon, Lime, and Lemongrass Juice with Chicken and Grapefruit Salad and Yogurt Dressing, or try a Foccaccia with Pesto, Parma Ham and Mozzarella while sipping an Iced Coffee Latte.

When the evening shadows fall, have a cocktail, perhaps a classic Mai Tai, a Margarita, possibly a White Russian.  Be adventurous with a Sorbet-Vodka Shot or invite guests to share a Ginger Punch while nibbling on Mini Pies with Goat Cheese and Rosemary, or Spring Rolls with Crab and Chile.  Try a Flirtini alongside Scampi with Coriander and Lime

In addition to delicious drinks and mouthwatering morsels, Slurp features tips for creating a well-stocked bar, hosting a successful party, and making clever garnishes, like colorful ice cubes and homemade edible shot glasses made from cucumbers. And they offer Ten Good Reasons to Have a Party:

1 - An anniversary.
2 - You quit smoking six months ago.
3 - Inauguration of a new kitchen.
4 - It's Wednesday!
5 - New episodes of Ugly Betty.
6 - It's Gandhi's birthday (October 2).
7 - First day of winter.
8 - You got a pay raise.
9 - It's a full moon.
10  - You really have nothing else to do!

Add another ten reasons to make your own list.  Lift the glass or cup; sip and go ahead, slurp.  Enjoy.
